Introduction to SharePoint Technologies
Microsoft SharePoint 2010 is Microsoft's fourth version of the family of products named SharePoint. SharePoint provides a myriad of capabilities based on Web based interfaces that enable Document Sharing and Management, Application Developement and Enterprise Content Management.
SharePoint is extensively customizable. this customization can be performed using tools built into the GUI (including and Office-like Ribbon with 2010), Windows SharePoint Designer and Visaul Studio. Each tool has specific benefits and limitations. With each subsequent version of SharePoint the development has become progressively more mainstream so that with SharePoint 4.0 the Visual Studio developer experience is very simlar to developing for other ASP.NET applications.
